LIFT
LIFT is a sustainable production platform that provides valuable tools, training, and services to coffee farmers and coffee communities.
Through LIFT, we work directly with coffee producers to raise their quality of life by helping them improve their well-being in a social and environmentally conscious manner.
The platform provides training and technical assistance to new producers every year and is based on our three pillars: productivity, environment, and social development. Training is given by highly qualified Mercon agronomists and includes courses around coffee plant physiology and nutrition, protection and recovery of water resources, farm and pest management, and financial literacy, just to name a few. Additionally, through LIFT we are able to offer interconnected services from plantation renovations to financing.
LIFT also monitors and trains our producers through digital platforms—straight from the farm. Our technical team uses tablets onsite to digitally capture and monitor each producer’s improvement, which guarantees how effective the platform is.
The LIFT Sustainability Criteria Scheme is developed by Mercon’s Sustainable Production department and is approved by Mercon’s Sustainability Committee. Changes to the sustainability criteria can be made according to the needs identified in each origin where LIFT is implemented, or to the needs of the roasters that support the platform or any other stakeholder related to LIFT. All stakeholders related to LIFT can give feedback or suggestions for improvement to the sustainability criteria at any time, and their contribution will be considered in annual reviews of the sustainability criteria carried out by the Sustainable Production team. All LIFT farms are evaluated annually by the Mercon team of agronomists, to measure their level of compliance and identify areas for improvement in which LIFT can support the producer. Assurance decisions are made by the Sustainability Production team and define the actions to be taken based on the results. Third-party verifications are executed based on the request of key stakeholders related to LIFT implementation.
